Palm Sunday Jouanry (Part 1)

Welcome to Holy Week. Palm Sunday really is a joyous day. When our Lord Jesus made his triumphal entance into Jerusalem. Palms were waved in celebration and laid on the road in front of the Lord. Today is a wonderful day of celebration before we enter the aspects of Good Friday and the remembrance of the crucifixion. It is still a time to celebrate all that God has given us. He has provided us with grace and love. He has also provided us with direction, hope, and comfort. Let us all celebrate!

Passage :
Matthew 21:8-11 – “Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Praise God in highest heaven!” The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as he entered. “Who is this?” they asked. And the crowds replied, “It’s Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.” (NLT)

A look deeper :
By this time Jesus was well known. Everyone coming to Jerusalem for the Passover feast had heard of him, and, for a time, the popular mood was favorable toward him. ” The Lord needs it” was all the disciples had to say, and the colt’s owners gladly turned their animals over to them. Christians celebrate this event Palm Sunday. The people lined the road, praising God, waving palm brances, and throwing their cloaks in front of the colt as it passed before them. ” Long live the King” was the meaning behind their joyful shouts, because they knew that Jesus was fufilling the prophecy in Zecharaiah 9:9. ” See, your King comes to you, rightteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey”.
To announce that He was indeed the Messiah, Jesus chose a time when all Israel would be gathered at Jeusalem, a place where huge crowds could see him, and a way of proclaiming His mission that was unmistakable. The people went wild. They were sure their liberation was at hand..
