Adam (Used By God) Part 1 – Sex
Adam (Used By God) Part 1
We all have heard about Adam, his wife Eve, and his three sons, Cain, Able, and Seth. I really have been unsure how exactly to write this. I could point out so much from the life of Adam how it relates to Jesus, God’s Plan of Salvation or we could look at how God set up the family. Let’s look at every point of the Story of Adam. Let’s see how the life of Adam, Eve, Cain, Able, and Seth relates to our 21st-century life before we wrap up the Used By God series through Genesis, and then we can begin Exodus.
Genesis 1:26-31 (Role For Everyone)
Why are we here? Recently in early 2021, I saw a news headline on Facebook in my feed. Nasa now is claiming that the universe is not as big as we once thought it was and it’s possible that we, the human race are the only living creatures in the universe. Feels like a very lonely place to be, so if that is true, if we are the only living creatures in the universe, along with the animals and other life on this planet. Leaves us with an important question, why are we here? How did we get here?
Well anyone who believes in a higher power will say that we have been created by a higher power, but it doesn’t solve the question that is even in the hearts of the Nasa Scientist, why are we here? The bible answers this important question weighing on each person’s heart and mind. God gives us the answer. The answer is that we have been created with a purpose and given a unique design too.
Genesis 1:26 tells us three key things about us and our role in this earth.
- We are made in the Image of God
- We are made in the Likeness of God
- We have been given Dominion over all Creation.
In this same verse, we see God say, “Let Us”. Who is God referring to in this verse? In the beginning, God was in community with himself. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the very first clue in the bible that we see what we know as the trinity. Later through the bible, we see Jesus pop up in the old testament. I will point this out when we came across these moments. It’s important to point out, God wasn’t lonely, he didn’t create us for no reason either, he was already in community with himself, but he chose to create everything and then create a creature and give that creature his image, likeness, and dominion, there is then and now a purpose and reason he made us. What drove God to begin writing this love story? Honestly, I don’t know. The bible doesn’t say. He just one day decided to create others to join him. God didn’t have to create us, he didn’t have to create anything. He could have just stayed just as he was and he would have been perfectly okay. Think about this. He knew when he would create everything, his own image and likeness would rebel against him, but he still created. If anything, this shows the incredible Love of God.
Sex (Genesis 1:28)
Shaming sexual desires is big in the church. The Catholic church, for a long time, forbidden priests from having sexual relationships with women. If you read the first chapter in the Bible, Genesis 1, verse 28, the first command God gives to his image and likeness is to have sex. We are sexual creatures. God made us that way, so don’t feel bad if you desire to have sex, no matter if your male or female. God put that in you, it in verse 28, chapter 1 of Genesis.
What is sex though? It’s was created for a male and female who come together in marriage. It was also meant for a male and female and not for male and male or female and female. In verse 28 it says, “God said to them”, referring to verse 26 “male and female”. After God made Eve, the wife of Adam, it says in Genesis 2:24 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife and they shall become one flesh.”
Sexual Immorality is a real thing. See we are sexual creatures. God made us that way, but it was meant to be in the freedom of Marriage. Today the porn industry is a billion-dollar industry because there is a deep longing in each of us to experience what God wanted us to experience, but a lot of people step outside of the freedom zone and they go down a deep dark hole and sadly a lot of woman and kids are sex slaves in our world today.
I can’t tell you how many times I have heard a woman tell me that she was deceived by a guy into having sex with him. They tell me, “He said he was a Christian”, “he said he loved me” even heard, “he said if he doesn’t finish then it going to hurt him.” Being in a role of a spiritual leader, I hear the wildest things from people while talking to them. Having a Single Ministry, those wild things just increase. It’s important as Christians we hold true to our values and keep sex inside marriage. If we don’t it will leave us broken, hurt, scared, and may even doubt God. If you really want to be free, you must put up boundaries around your life, in order to stay free, free from hurt, pain, depression, and brokenness.
A lot of people don’t know that the bible actually talks about Masturbation. I have never heard one pastor preach on masturbation before, but I have heard one pastor say the bible doesn’t say anything about masturbation. Jesus actually spoke about this in the sermon on the mount. He said, “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out…. If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off…” Matthew 5: 29-30. From a guy’s standpoint, this is a dangerous sin to get caught up in. You’re not just screwing with yourself from a physical standpoint, but also a mental standpoint and after a while, it becomes a mental illness. You get to a point in this sin that you can’t just stop cold turkey. It just like if you do drugs and you are trying to stop. You programming your brain to the point that if you don’t continue, you will get head acks and your mind will never stop reloading the images in your brain of all the women you have seen in the pictures. The head acks don’t leave until you masturbate. This is a dangerous sin to get caught up in and I can only speak from a guy’s point of view because I have a guy’s mind. I’m sure women are the same way.
In the brain, there is a reward system, when you feed into this reward system, you become attached to different things, like drugs, alcohol, sex, food, etc., you name it, it could be chicken. Well, your brain will release a chemical called ‘Dopamine’. It gets released when we experience something that is enjoyable like sex. God made sex enjoyable, but it was meant to be an enjoyable experience in marriage between a man and his wife. This is literally the reason why so many people even Christians get caught up in sexual sins. Why so many people get caught up in fast food and gain pounds. It’s because of this chemical called dopamine. It’s also why if you stop giving in to the enjoyable experience, you experience head acks because your brain isn’t used to the prolonged season of stopping. Your brain is programmed to release this dopamine, so it will remind you of the images that made you release this dopamine. So now this becomes a war between your desire to stop and your brain’s desire to release this dopamine.
In recent years science found out that you can retrain your brain to think differently and to end these addicted paths that you created in your brain. You have to stop returning to these destructive enjoyable moments and completely cut them off from your day-to-day habits. In the book “Freedom Starts Today” By John Elmore, he gives a way to overcome addictions with a 24-hour method attached with an accountable partner. The idea is that you can stop drinking, smoking, masturbating, or whatever your addiction is, you can stop the next 24 hours. Let someone know that you stop for 24 hours. And just repeat this every day. In 2 Corthinians 10:5, Paul tells the church “taking every thought captive”. Paul understood 2000 years ago that the mind is the greatest warzone anyone will ever face. We have to learn to think differently and overcome these images that we have seen online or in magazines. Our own brain is our worst enemies by default, we must learn how to fight our own flesh. This is a warzone, a battleship, and sin by default in nature that we are living in. In Phillipian 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
So when God made Adam and Eve, he made them into sexual creatures, but this enjoyable gift God gave these two first people were meant to be in a marriage relationship setting and when we step outside of the boundaries God put into place, we end up hurting ourselves and other people as well.
