According to your Faith (Study of Matthew – Part 39)

According to  ‘American Foundation for the Blind’, “2012 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) Preliminary Report established that an estimated 20.6 million adult Americans (or nearly 10% of all adult Americans) reported they either “have trouble” seeing, even when wearing glasses or contact lenses, or that they are blind or unable to see at all.” That’s a fun fact, that not to fun to know, which I wanted to share with you.

2000 Years ago, when Jesus walked the earth, the bible talks about How Jesus heals people and done all these miracles. Something we have gone over in the last few sermons, but in Matthew 9:27-34 there is another story about the healing of the Blind and Mute. Beyond the clear story, that once again Jesus healed someone, there is more to the story, then the story itself, there is truth in it that I would like to go over.

First the “two blind men follow him, calling out, “Have mercy on us Son of David!”-  Verse 27

Next Jesus asked, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” – Verse 28

Third, they said yes.

Fourth, they were healed.

Your most likely thinking, “Great, what does this have to do with anything, you pretty much just said what the bible said.”. There are steps to take to get from point A to point B. The steps are starts with Faith.

These men where blind, following a men calling out “Son of David” to him. At any moment, these blind men could have been stone to death for proclaim this men to the highest name. The name, “Son of David” was a name only given for the one who would come King of the Jews. No one at the time look at Jesus as being the King of the Jews. The Promise redeemer of the World. So to have bold faith to stand up and follow a complete stranger, trusting that this one is the one who is the Promise savior of the World.

These two men understood something even more. That they are sinners. They don’t deserve to receive anything Good and true from the Lord God. They understand that they need the Mercy and Grace of God to heal and save them. They “Call out, “have mercy on us…”. Say you go to Court, the one who is taking you to court is the very judge. He found you guilty of all charges. Your first response is you beg the judge to forgive you.  All your faith that moment is in the Judge, to forgive you. He gets up, and proclaims you innocent and sets you free. That is Mercy. That is the Gospel. That is Love of Jesus.

It’s not just enough to ask for mercy, but the story goes on, “He asked, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” In accordance with the faith of asking for Mercy, you must be in faith to believe that he is able. Putting all your faith and trust in Jesus, that whenever you ask, you will receive. You must believe. Don’t doubt the grace and mercy of God. Which he richly gives. He Loves you and desires to see you though your hardship, but greater than that, he desires to see your faith acting in the hardship.

See Jesus isn’t some guy that had all this magical powers to do all this crazy stuff. Must people look at him as if that is the case. That’s just isn’t true. See the Bible goes on, it says, “According to your faith will it be done to you.” Not According to how powerful Jesus is, not it all is on this one basic truth. Your own Faith and trust in Jesus.

The Story goes on to talk about a muted men being healed from being Demon possessed. “The Crowd was amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.” When we truly stand up in bold faith before Men and God, and believe in God’s truthful promise, even in the most unreal moment in our life, then we will shine as light to the dark world around us, because of our faith. That only that the people around us will see and be amazed at the wonders of God in our personal lives. That might just be an open door for the unbeliever to become a believer.

Don’t forget though, Jesus was doing great and wonderful and amazing things to show God’s Gospel to the nations. The religious leaders of that day came and attack Jesus for his work of Glorifying God.

To close off, We are all spiritual blind apart from Jesus, so if you’re ready to spiritual See, then all you need to do is Ask God for Mercy and believe that he will and has given mercy to you.

Proverbs 28:13

Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
