In the Movie ‘Finest Hour’, a crew is lost at sea and their boat was cut in half. They have only 5 hours to work together as a team and get the boat to land, or else the boat will consume too much water and sink. One member on this boat knows the boat inside and out and they even joke with him about him being married to the boat. Back at the coast, the Navy commander is trying to find a way to get the crew member, but with the storm outside, it’s suicide mission and no one is willing to take the risk, but the commander doesn’t care how dangerous is it, he sends out an young guy to take a team with him and they had out. The guy was engaged and his sweet heart is worried about him being out on the water, so she waited for him. In the End, this nobody ends up saving over 30 people and get reunited with the love of his life. It’s a great movie for men, because of the life and death plot and for woman for the love plot.
There a lot to take from this movie. There is a time limit or game over. The team must work together rand follow one person, even if they hate that one person, he is the only one who can save all the team. In the Business world I’m in, it gives me a refreshing view of my personal profession. It reminds me that as a manager, I have a time limit to get a team of people to do that job just right, or its game over and I’m out of a job. Maybe even some people under me are out of a job to. A leader is will define the situation around him, come up with a plan with what he or she has and they will execute the plan one way or another, find if losing a few crew members to the mighty sea.
The guy that was sent out with the team to go save the others made it farther than what they expected and one his crew members was bagging to turn back around and the leaders reply was, “We’re made it this far, were not about to quit now.” When the small men boat was too heavy to carry more than 12 people, the crew member said, “Let’s turn back and drop them off and come back for the rest.” The Leader’s reply is, “We die together, we’re not leaving no one behind.” A leader doesn’t let one person on his team fail. There a saying, the chain is only as weak as the weakest link. You got to strengthen your team members, so the whole team is strong and outside the mightiest storm.
Management isn’t a walk in the park, it’s a consist storm and it’s hard. Management is hard and you cannot and will not gain the skills of a leader by going to school, you most at all cost go straight into the storm and come out alive. That’s the only way. If you want to lead people, get ready, because the finest hour is coming and it’s in those finally moments, your leadership skills determines life or death of your whole crew.
