“This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham…….(Verses 1:2-1:16)……Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.”

Why is it importain that the writer of the letter of Matthew puts the “Genealogy of Jesus” in the start of this letter?

We can look at some key facts, just from the above verses. Most people, who don’t study the bible, might not notice this, but I would like to explain why the Genealogy of Jesus is importain.

It is not just a list of names. Its a list of righteous peoples names. It’s a family background time line. It shows Prophecy fullfillment. It shows Jesus as the Promise Messiah of Israel.

      1. God Told Abraham that he would be the father of many nations. His offspring would be countless, like the sand of the sea and the stars in the sky. “16 and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

      2. The promise messiah would come from David’s bloodline. This is because David was a king chosen by God. It had to come from his blood line. It’s how royal families work. Like in the United Kingdom.“In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it–one from the house of David–one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness.” Isaiah 16:5

      3. The Exile of Babylon was a bad time in history for Jews. The first temple was set on fire . It was a time of great worry for the Jewish people. Because Jews rebill against God, God allow them to be over thrown and inslaved. God simply punish the jewish people. The best and worst thing you would want to be on earth is a jew. Its true, because they are always turning against God and so God punishes them. We can read all about this big event in bible history in the book’s of 2 Kings and 1 Chronicles. Toward the end of 2 Kings.

The thing that is cool about this, “14, 14, 14”. Them numbers are “7,7,7,7,7,7” or “777”, “777”. Two sets of three “7”’s. Seven is God’s number. Mark of completeness. In 7 day’s, the world was created. 7. So that number is very key to telling that there is a messiahic or God plan coming into action. God beginning something that is forever his own plan. In all the time, there was 42 generations.  42 is also an biblical prophecy number. The finally 7 years of ends with 42 months of the devil’s leadership as AntiChrist on earth. So 42 being in this prophecy fullfillment is strange.  But the numbers are not importain but that what is importain are few things.

      1. The Messiah must be Son of David

      2. The Messiah some how makes sure that the offspring of Abraham is as countless as the stars.

Does Jesus Fullfill these things?

Jesus does. But how?

That “HOW?” answer will be given in another sermon in this sermon Series of Matthew. So keep in touch with us in facebook and twitter and follow the sermons and learn. How Jesus is the Promise Messiah to the Jewish people and the world.
