Spread the love

What would life be like without God? What would I do if I couldn’t speak to him? That’s easy to answer. I would be speaking with the devil and spending time with the devil. I would be on a road that was like a war zone. A road of death. I would not know life at all. Even though I would have it all, without  speaking to God, my life be a mess.

In marriage, a husband and wife need to talk with each other. It’s part of the deal of marriage. The two lovers spend time with each other. The two share their lives with each other. communication is important in relationships. Well, in your faith, you’re in a relationship with God and that communication the God of the universe is desiring from you today. But how do you talk to an unseen God that wants us to speak to him and spend time with him?

Speaking to God is called “Prayer”. Prayer is an act of worship toward’s God. Showing your respect to him. We should take this act very seriously. Remember, we are going before a God and King and ruler, creator of everything. He has given us the rights to go before him. To ask for anything from him and tell you anything and to thank him. So how does prayer work?

Old testament is filled with prayers from prophets. The book of psalms is all prayers from different people of God. On every topic. Thanking God, asking God why, asking God for help, giving God the glory. Countless ways you can pray, but each way can honor God. We can look at one prayer.

Here is one in Psalms 18. Verse 1 is perfect for this sermons, “Hear, O Lord, my righteous plea; listen to my cry. Give ear to my prayers it does not rise from deceitful lips.”

In the beginning of that passage. We find keys to prayer. First though, the reason behind this prayer is David was handing out from this King that wanted to kill David. David was on the run for his life.

Key’s to prayers are

  • God hear’s your prayer

  • We should cry to God when praying. Pray, pray and pray. Never stop praying. Cry to God. Cry until he answers you. Praying once and leaving it behind isn’t going to do much. Pray with a passion. Pray and never give up. Someone gets cancer. Pray and never stop. Someone dyeing. Pray and pray and don’t give up. Cry out to God. The father wants his baby to cry to him. He will comfort us.

  • We need to understand. He only listens to the prayers of those who repented and turned to him. He only listens to the prayer of his people. If your unsaved, he won’t listen to your prayers.

Back in Matthew Jesus tells us little more on how we pray….

We start by Giving God the glory. God comes first in everything. We’re praying to GOD. Not a human, but one who deserves all honor and respect from us. “Hollow be your name”. Hollow means Holy. Holy by the name of God. Understanding how God himself is Holy and no one and nothing else. Not even the angles. God alone is Holy.

In prayer we don’t always get what we want. God still has his big picture plan. Just because we prayed for this or that, don’t mean that it be done. Can’t pray that Jesus never comes, he will come. “God’s Will be done”. Prayer is a way of getting what god wants through us, not us getting what we want though God. It is hard to pray God will be done if it mint that your wife dies, leaves you or something major happens, but sometimes we need to understand God’s almighty will be done. Who knows something mint happen in your life, so you would learn to trust God more. That act of trusting God will strengthen your faith more than you know. I face that once in my life, and it hurt me that I faced saying that. I remember God spoke to me and say, “I have heard your prayers”. My storm was over few weeks later.

God loves it when you ask him for things. Jesus talks about us asking him to things all the times. Ask and it will be yours. We read that in Matthew 7:7. We at times though can get to carry away with asking God for things, like that new phone or money. Something I love asking for is honestly wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the bible. I know what it means to have money and it’s worthless. Waste of time trying to gain money. Want wisdom to preach and bring revival to USA. Want to be used by God in mighty ways. My prayers concern reaching people for christ. Your prayers might be different though, but understand whatever you need, you are in the rights to go before God and ask him.

Forgiving is important. We have a forgiving God. He died on the cross for you. You need to take the time and ask for forgiveness daily from God. We sin daily and it hurts God that we sin. We got to tell him sorry. And if someone hurt you. You need to let it go and forget about it, forgive other people, no matter what. Even forgive the devil. forgiveness in the faith will help you grow closer to God. God is a forgiver. Forgive and forget. Forgive is give, giving mercy to people for no reason. Also, it’s forgive, not forgave. Forgave is past, forgive is present. So ask long as it’s right now, you have and should and do forgive.

We ask sinners by nature get caught up into different types of sin. temptation is a way for a sin to be born into our lives. We need to be overcomers and ask God to deliver us from the devils deceiving lips towards us. We got to ask God to help us be overcomers.

I could keep talking and talking, but we need to sum this up right here. Prayer is important for your walk with God. Get on your knees before God in Heaven and just give him the glory and talk with him about your day and life. Read the passage below and then go do what you have heard and pray.

Matthew 6:5-15

(NIV)

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done,     on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts,     as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation,     but deliver us from the evil one.’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
