Loving my what? Loving my enemies. Hmm…, Jesus are you sure you said that correctly? You want me to love the guy that muder my kids? Wait, you want me to love that guy that stole my car, that broke into my house, that… . That list can go on forever. Did Jesus really mean what he said? Surely he is mis-taken, but he is not. He mint it and he never taken it back.
The way you love your enemies is by first forgiving them. Until we forgive our enemies then there is not going to be loving arms around them. There is just going to be hate between you and them. Or maybe just between you and the wall, because they might be loving on you and you be hating on them, your look like the fool than, hating your lover. We got to forgive, that’s where is begins, forgivness.
But you forgave them, then what is next? Well, step 1 was to forgive them from your heart. Now what? Well, what is love? You need to know what love before you can show love towards another person, correct? Yeap, so what is Love? “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails….”, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Great, but what does that mean?
Wait on your enemies. Be kind to your enemies. Don’t desire (envy) what your enemies have. Don’t go up to your enemies and start talking about “oh look at me, I am this and i’ve got that, unlike you.”. Just to get back at someone, don’t do that. Surely don’t think of yourself as more favorible then your enemies. Don’t dishonor your enemies. If your enemies need water and you have the last bottle, even at death, give your enemies that last bottle of water. Get happy with your enemies. Look at them and not at their wrong’s. Protect them, trust them. Put your hope in them. Perservere them also. Don’t fail them, even if they fail you. Wow it’s almost if you love your enemies. That’s the target, loving them.
Who could do this? Who in their right mind could love their enemies? First you, if your saved, God’s “devine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness..”, 2 Peter 1:3. So there is no excuse as christians. We either choose or don’t choose to love our enemies. Jesus chose to. Think about all that he endure leading to the cross. That great persecution he endure through it all. Being God in the human form, Jesus could have had the army of heaven come down and destory all who lay an hand on him, but out of love, he endure throw it all and with him hunging on the cross, he said “Forgive them Father, they not know what they do”, Luke 23:34. I don’t know anyone in all the bible that under-gone a persecution and then said that. When we read in old testiment, all the prophets are asking God to take revange on the people who persecuted them, now you got God himself getting persecuted and then saying, “it’s cool”. Wow.
We can understand how Jesus could do that. He has no sin, but became sin for us. Now because of what Jesus endure in his final hour, we are now able to endure something so easy, loving our enemies. God has teach me personally on what this statement means and I personally can say it is possible, it’s hard, but it can be done. Just remmeber that God see’s your love toward’s everyone and in the end that’s all that is going to matter. Not how much you work and serve God, but how much you loved others. “If I ….. but do not love, I gain nothing.”, 1 Corthinians 13:1-3.
Where do you stand on these amazing words of Jesus? “You have heard that is was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be called sons of your Father in heaven. He causes the sun to rise on the evil and good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more then others? Do not the pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”, Matthew 5:43-48.
So what are you going to reply back to Jesus? He asked you some questions, you should answer back before it’s to late.
