33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. Matthew 5:33-37
How many promises does it take for people to not vote for someone in the USA election? The answer is “One”. Voters know when someone makes a promise to do this or that, then that person is full of themselves or just not wise or even lying. There is simply no way for someone to know exactly what is going to take place in the future. Businesses, nations and kingdoms all try, and they are successful for a while, but then they fail sometime in the long run.
We’re find a lot of people doing this same thing, their make all these plans up and then nothing happens. Why is that? I don’t know. Maybe they just have to try harder. Hmm, maybe not, maybe there is a greater reason behind it all.
In March 2010, I made an oath that after high school, I would do to NJ and live there. While time came and it didn’t happen. God was still calling me their and with a dream, he told me that I needed to wait a time period. See, we can get so caught up in doing something or making a promise, just because we felt God tell us something, but the end is God is holy and we are fools.
Now, when everything fell apart and I was clueless, I just went back to my job cleaning bathrooms for little while. Over a year past by, and nothing. I couldn’t find away out to NJ. I was hopeless. Finally God heard my prayers and got me a great full-time job and higher pay and bosses are looking to promote me. Seems God knew different huh. But, God is faithful, he called me to NJ in 2010, In 2013, he told me i’ll be living 2014 spring. I’m learning to trust in his timing and his way not my own.
Reasons to not make Oaths
-
My promise hurt myself and someone I love very much
-
We don’t know what tomorrow brings, even if God tell us “this and that”
-
It’s sin against God. Promising stuff it putting yourself in God’s shoes. Only a Holy Being can truly promise anyone anything.
God called me to NJ, I took it and made a promise to someone and put in my own timing. I didn’t pray and ask God to give me a timing, I took it and into my own hands it was a mess.
There is never a good reason to make a promise to anyone. My personally replies in work is “I’ll try best I can” and “can’t promise anything”. Promising will only make things even more bad in the end.
